I have in slab radiant heat and a new digital thermostat and I'm struggling with cycles per hour.?
I have a new gas fired hot water boiler at 93% efficiency but the mfg. recommended 3 cycles per hour don't seem to match my in slab radiant hot water heat distribution. The heat loss (temperature difference between the supply and return water) is approximately 40 degrees F. Am I doing the right thing by reducing the number of cycles per hour setting in my thermostat to 1, i.e., 30 minutes on and 30 off?
Your answer will vary depending on your location, the outside air temperature and the insulation of your walls and attic. Ulitimately you will get the answer by trial and error. I think you will find 1 cycle per hour will leave you cold, and your system will have to work harder to re-heat the cooled concrete slab. If you are thinking you will save money, if there is any savings, it will be offset by your comfort.
